Who is TACPAC for?

TACPAC is a communication resource for people of all ages with a range of needs. These could be because of motor difficulties, dementia, memory loss, a longing for touch, or feelings of isolation.

A TACPAC session is very easy to set up and requires very little equipment – only a phone or tablet, a quiet space and a few everyday objects. It provides a regular, structured half hour which is beneficial to both you and your TACPAC partner.  TACPAC enables you both to build up a sensory vocabulary which you both mutually understand – enabling good relationships and good communications leading to a feeling of wellbeing and involvement. TACPAC offers companionship and communication in a sensory way.

TACPAC For Teachers & Education Assistants

TACPAC can be used with a whole class, or with one or two pupils individually. It can be used in any environment – classroom or even outdoors; anywhere that is relatively free from clutter and sensory distractions. TACPAC can be used to create sensory stories which are relevant to the term topic or time of the year. It can also be used to measure progress over time on any of the normal assessment tools and it can be integrated into many different parts of the curriculum. When used regularly, TACPAC helps children to interact with those around them as they build a bond of trust with their TACPAC partner. Anyone can do TACPAC with anyone else, be they a teacher, a SENCO, a physiotherapist, or even another student. When TACPAC is scheduled at the same time each week, the pupils learn to anticipate the session which increases the overall benefit of the communication during ‘TACPAC time’.

I wanted to email and let you know how well TacPac is working at our setting! I cannot get over the difference it is making to some of our children! It is incredible. I am going to roll it out to my Sen team but also recommend it to other settings at my Sen cluster meetings.

Cathy Robinson, The Parade Community School

I would recommend it to our facilitators here as they play a big role in supporting the students. I also think that it would benefit therapists too!

TACPAC for Occupational Therapists

When a child or adult has sensory processing disorder, the world can seem chaotic around them.  TACPAC makes sense of this by providing sensory alignment through touch and sound. TACPAC can be used throughout different settings, in different stages of life and with different people. This means that the same TACPAC set can be used to support someone in the home, at school, in residential care or in hospital.

Occupational Therapists can do their own assessments and sensory profiling  to see which way the receiver will benefit from TACPAC. For example, a profile might tell you who would like a light touch, or who will like deep pressure. The use of TACPAC can then be modified to suit the individual’s needs. TACPAC enables you to look for tiny signs of communication so that progress can be measured over an extended period of time. Go to our shop page for more details on what’s included with each TACPAC set. Or go to our training page to book a training so that you can find in more depth about how and why TACPAC works.

Brilliant and engaging facilitators who have a clear passion for using TACPAC in many environments and how it can be used universally. The use of videos was great and mixed up content.

TACPAC for Speech Pathologists

Speech Pathologists love TACPAC because of the focus it provides on building communication skills. The intensive one-to-one interaction of a TACPAC session is invaluable in developing trust so that the child or adult with communication difficulties can begin to express themselves and know that they will be understood. Watch the videos of our Speech Pathologist as they describe the increased attention span and intentional communication after a TACPAC session. The fact that TACPAC is measurable means that any small changes can be recorded after each session for parents or teachers to see the communication skills which are being built. TACPAC can also be done by the family, school or home so that progress is not lost between sessions with the speech therapist.

I think all of us here in the hospital school would benefit from TACPAC. I would also recommend it to the speech and language therapists.

“TacPac has been a powerful modality to use with clients living with Dementia.

Weekly sessions have been demonstrated to boost self-expression, lessen agitation and tension, and boost engagement. Even in the late stages of the disease, when verbal communication had become difficult, Tac Pac provided an interactive way to communicate and assisted in the development of mirroring and turn-taking, thereby increasing nonverbal communication, connection, and emotional well-being
